Ready to Engage? We Need You!

Volunteers Needed for a Variety of Roles

As we are now officially The Harvard Club of Alabama, we need to expand our reach throughout the state to more actively engage with our 800+ alumni in the state. The Club seeks volunteers in the following areas:

Vice President:

  • Works closely with the President and other board members to generate ideas and strategy for the Club.
  • Partners with the President during meetings and events; presides over meetings in the President’s absence.
  • Opportunity to meet alumni and students from throughout the state and engage with organizations that support the Club's efforts.
  • Traditionally ascends to the role of President when the current President’s term concludes.

Community Outreach Committee Members, who can help with any of these duties:

  • Facilitate undergraduate student volunteer initiatives, such as the already-established Alternative Spring Break program and the Bill Shanks Community Service Fellowship.
  • Coordinate the annual Early College Awareness (ECA) events in at least 10 middle schools. ECA is an HAA-developed program that includes instructions and materials.

Communications Committee Members, who can help with any of these duties:

  • Maintain the Club website (knowing code would be helpful).
  • Write news/event content for the Club website and monthly newsletter.
  • Write alumni profiles for the Club website and monthly newsletter.
  • Maintain a dynamic and informative social media presence.

Regional Liaisons for Birmingham and the Wiregrass region. Regional Liaisons undertake the following activities:

  • Act as a regional point of contact for the Club for alumni, interviewers, students, employers, and others interested in Harvard and the Club’s work.
  • Suggest ways for regional alumni to be more actively connected to the Club, its mission, and its activities.
  • Organize 2-4 regional events to include Harvard or All Ivy alumni annually.
  • Interview applicants in their region (in addition to other interviewees) for early admissions in the fall and regular applications in January-February.

If you are interested in any of these roles, or are interested in volunteering in general, please contact incoming President Tara Baukus Mello to learn more.
