Harvard Policy Debate: Immigration Policy.

Kent Osband, AB 1975, officiates our first Harvard Policy Debate. The topic: Immigration Policy. Stay tuned.

Join us for our first debate format!

The topic is immigration policy, focusing on whether the US should filter Canadian/Australian-style for skills. On the one hand, such campaigns have an ignoble historical pedigree, as emphasized in Daniel Okrent's (former public editor at the NYT) The Guarded Gate: Bigotry, Eugenics and the Law That Kept Two Generations of Jews, Italians, and Other European Immigrants out of America. On the other hand, Harvard Kennedy School professor George Borjas, an immigrant himself, contends in We Wanted Workers: Unraveling the Immigration Narrative  that skills filters will help reduce social inequality and speed immigrant assimilation. We would like to enlist one debater and one moderator on each side, while giving them the freedom to reframe the discourse as they choose. If you would like to serve as either debater or moderator for this event, please contact Kent Osband asap (he'll place you). He is also keen to hear your ideas for future debates.
