About Us

The Harvard Club of Alabama has a long history of engagement in the Alabama community and at Harvard. Chartered in 1922 as the 12th alumni club in Harvard's "Southern Division," thousands of alumni have engaged with the club and the larger All-Ivy community for over 100 years. Each year, the Club offers alumni and the wider community a place to engage, grow, and contribute.

Our Mission

We are on a mission to strengthen the Harvard community in Alabama!

The Harvard Club of Alabama is a nonprofit educational organization serving Harvard alumni throughout Alabama. Our mission is to create a strong community of alumni through a range of social events, cultural activities, speaker series, policy debates, school engagement, and unique evenings with leaders from our state and across the globe. Beginning in 2020, we embarked on a dedicated effort to bring talent to Alabama. There are many great opportunities to lead change in Alabama and it is our goal to raise the awareness of these opportunities to students and alumni interested in driving that change.

Building Harvard in Alabama is a long-term commitment, but also something that is renewed each year. If you are interested in learning more and supporting our cause please join us in our efforts. That is why each year as a club we meet to set goals aligned to our mission. As always, we welcome your comments and contributions. If you are interested in learning more and supporting our cause please feel free to contact President, Rebecca O'Neal at HarvardClubAlabama@gmail.com to share your thoughts and ideas. Look for our report on the progress of these goals in our Fiscal Year End Report posted online.

Our Goals for 2023-2024

  • Achieve growth in membership each year

  • Complete interviews for 100% of Tier 1+2 applicants

  • Award 10 Book Prizes

  • Share 12 newsletters per year

  • Organize at least 4 networking events per year such as Harvard-Yale Game parties,
New Student send-off, or Global Networking Night (GNN)

  • Raise scholarship funds for Alabama high schoolers who are accepted to Harvard

Our leadership team is working hard to breathe new life and new excitement into this club that has been special for so many people. Have an idea? Want to organize an event?  Drop us an email and we will get in touch.

Our Strategy

We recognize that our alumni network is a volunteer organization, so we have spent considerable time and energy balancing engagement with sustainability. To that, we have focused the club on 3 major areas:

We are engaging, interviewing, rewarding, and recognizing outstanding students and their Schools: This we accomplish through activities such as interviewing top students in the state, awarding the Harvard Prize Book (an annual program to encourage outstanding students to apply to Harvard), and awarding scholarships such as the Ann Huntington Heldman Memorial Scholarship.

We are connecting Harvard alumni to build a more vibrant network: We are encouraging our nearly 1000 alumni in the state to connect and share their activities, ambitions, news, and other opportunities. In this way, we are building a more vibrant network to help our alumni build friendships and business relationships.

We are raising awareness of the great opportunities in Alabama: Finally, we are raising awareness of the excellent work Harvard alumni are doing in the state and highlighting the excellent opportunities current students and those outside of the state can engage with to drive change.

Help us achieve our goals with your donation!

We are pursuing our mission in multiple ways, all of which depend on your support.
Please consider becoming a member, renewing your membership, or donating directly to our club.
