Alternative Winter Break
In January 2022, Harvard College students spent a week volunteering with four Alabama-based non-profit organizations as part of the Phillips Brooks House Association’s Alternative Winter Break (AWB). This effort is a spin-off of the Alternative Spring Break, an in-person event organized for the last 20 years by attorney Gay Maloney of Decatur, Alabama. A virtual version was held in 2021 and this year due to Covid.
.
Organized by Community Outreach Chair Kevin Ferguson, in conjuction with PBHA students Carly Tiaras and Austin Goldsmith, the students worked virtually with the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Build UP, Paint Rock Forest Research Center, and The Woods Foundation.

Efforts are underway to connect students with internships in the state this summer. If you are interested in hosting a student who is interning, or offering an internship at your company, or both, please reach out.
