Alumni Spotlight...Dr. Bliss Chang
Harvard Medical School ('20)
“Everyone should be open to mentoring the next generation. To be a mentor is very important and it’s crucial to make the time to support career cycles of younger colleagues. Seeing your mentees surpass you is among the most rewarding moments in life.” – Bliss Chang
.
Bliss is a native of Montgomery, AL and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama – Birmingham (UAB). He researched different medical school programs and chose to attend Harvard Medical School because of its new curriculum that provided an accelerated exposure to clinical clerkships and a full tuition scholarship. He is very much interested in elevating the profile of medical education scholarship in academia by transforming how the medical community educates future physicians to better serve patients.
.
Bliss is completing his residency in Internal Medicine, and he is busy interviewing for a Cardiology Fellowship. Bliss is not sure which program or location he will begin his Cardiology Fellowship because the process involves interviewing at different programs followed by a ranking system to match candidates for the best fit. Once he completes the interview process and a match is made, he will begin his Cardiology Fellowship in the summer of 2023. Although he has a busy work schedule Bliss enjoys traveling and trying a variety of local and international cuisine.
.
The advice Bliss would give current Harvard students is to follow their passion by finding what you love as well as dislike. To find one’s passion, Bliss recommends that you explore and take advantage of the many opportunities that are available at Harvard. This time of exploration is the most important step in determining areas of interests and can open doors to greater opportunities. Also, life can be very hectic while following a specific career or educational path; however, it’s important to find time to reflect on experiences to better inform future actions, directions, and growth.
